What is Certification?

Certification, as it is commonly understood in our society, is a credential earned when someone "stands" for a national or an international examination. It means these candidates have been willing to "go the extra mile" to compare their knowledge and skill against a national norm.

The credential is awarded to candidates who pass there area of study Certification/Recertification Exam. The credential must be recertified every year by continuing education or re-examination to give evidence of continuing competency and knowledge, and thus better protect patients. Students and Medical professionals can also be awarded a credential by practical skill observation only! A licensed RN Nurse can and will observe your clinical practical Technique and can authorize awarding the credential for that professional skill.

Performance Measurment

Performance Measurement is a vital component of NAMP Certification programs. NAMP is a professional licensing and credentialing organization that provides certification to Allied Health Workers and performs other educational and Credential-related activities. NAMP is governed by a volunteer board of directors, composed of representatives from participating medical organizations, and a public member. The Certification Committee, of the Board of Directors, governs NAMP certifications. It provides the job-related insight necessary to ensure that the exams or RN Nurse practical skill observations are relevant and valid, and monitors procedures to ensure that exams and Observation evaluations are administered fairly and under proper conditions. NAMP has designed the license and certification process to serve important public needs as well as those of the allied health community by:

  • Setting specific and measurable standards for Allied Health knowledge and skills;
  • Formally recognizing Allied Health Workers who have met those standards;
  • Providing official confirmation of Certificants and qualifications to employers and the public.

Do I have to practice in my field to maintain
my certification?

Yes, NAMP require a minimum of 1,000 observed practical skills assessment hours during the certification period. It is important to remember that you must meet the requirements that are in place in the year you certify. While other National Certification Organizations only require there members to pay a yearly renewal fee, and participate in a number of CEUs to maintain there certification. NAMP has raised the bar by requiring all of our members to practice and keep current there clinical skills by participating in Mandatory yearly Observed practical skills assessment, and the written test. A Registered Nurse (RN) employed by NAMP, examines, observes and evaluates all Candidates who are awarded the NAMP credential and certification License.

Clinical Skills

This is one major skill that an Allied Health Care Worker should possess. Clinical skills are gained through hands-on training and practical experience. During program courses, a lot of lessons are taught such as anatomy, physiology, medical ethics and terminology but these are just theories and should be put into practice before a student will be able to gain skills in these areas. For instance, giving patients medicines through injections, theory is not enough to be able to master it.

NAMP set the Industry Standards for Allied Health Workers
While other National Certification Organizations only require a written test which usually consist of 200 questions and a paid fee and you are now certified .Our goal is to promote and maintain a high standard of excellence for allied health professionals and support their role as part of the patient healthcare team. Those certified by NAMP are expected to follow a certain code of conduct, as outlined in the NAMP Standards of Practice.
